Eco credentials. carbon footprint. going green, call it what you will. The very real problem of climate change is now a global issue and very much in the spotlight. CGN is attempting to lead the way for smaller contractors by adopting a realistic approach to our companies overall impact on the environment:
-All materials are reused or recycled where ever it is humanly possible. we send as little to landfill as we can.
- All new timber is purchased through suppliers who certify their timber as coming from sustainable sources. We are also beginning to lessen our use of products that are harmful to the environment both in terms of production and disposal. At the request of clients we can really go to town, even going as far as using 100% organic paint supplied in fully recycled tins. With the availability of environmentally friendly products, the prospect of a carbon neutral building project is getting ever closer.
- We are also able to offer our clients, large or small, the opportunity to make any project carbon neutral through offsetting. Our favoured offsetting being localised reforestation.
- Staff are encouraged to use public transport or cycle to work as much as possible with additional holiday time used as a reward .
- Hardcore is separated out and returned in a specific skip to be crushed and reused as sub base material.
- Bricks, slates, beams or any reusable materials are either stored by us for future use or offered to a specialist reclaimed material supplier such as DDS
- Company vans are electronically limited to 70mph, removing the opportunity for motorway speeding and reducing CO2 emissions. We have just replaced one vehicle with a dualfuel Vauxhall combo van that runs on LPG, It is so 'green' that we pay no London congestion charge on the vehicle. We have also just taken delivery of our new larger van which was chosen on its eco credentials, it returns over 40mpg and has Co2 emmisions of 120g/mile
- We supply and install rainwater harvesting systems, allowing 'grey' rainwater to be cleaned, stored and then used for household applications such as toilet flushing, washing machines and outside taps.
- We keep abreast of new products coming onto the market which offer energy saving benefits and offer these as options to our clients. items such as LED lighting, ground source heat pumps, high efficiency boilers etc.
